Wrinkled in Time

November 30th, 2009

By the time we are 30, many of us are already seeing wrinkles develop in places such as the corners of our mouth and eyes as well as in pointy spots like our elbows and knees. However, there is no reason to get upset and think that you are going to start looking like Tommy Lee Jones overnight. Wrinkle prevention is a relatively easy process to follow, but it is a routine that you want to get started on rather sooner than later. The following advice will help keep your skin naturally smooth and firm for years to come.

It is important to start an anti wrinkle skin care regime as early as possible. One of the best things that you can do is to moisturize well and often with a focus on the bony parts of your body such as your elbows, knees and ankles. Routinely using a night cream is also a very good idea, especially if you happen to have dry skin. Also, keep the sun from drying out your skin by applying sunscreen.

Besides moisturizing, keeping your skin clean is also important. If possible, bathe and moisturize your body twice a day in order to keep your skin looking vibrant and healthy. Be sure to use a mild cleanser that will clean without drying out your skin too much. A great natural skin cleanser can be found in the produce aisle of your local grocery store. Lemon is a great skin cleanser that will leave you feeling refreshed. Lemon juice will also help remove a tan, fade a scar, tighten up pores and detoxify the body.

Speaking of citrus, on of the best ways to prevent wrinkles from happening is to eat an orange day.  Studies have shown that foods rich in ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) help keep the skin looking young and supple. Nutritional epidemiologists (those who research food and skin) have found that people who eat a diet rich in Vitamin C tend to have fewer wrinkles than those who avoided the Vitamin. Ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant that has been shown to play an important part in collagen development. Collagen is an important bodily protein that helps keep skin elastic and hydrated, which is why the compound is found in so many skin care products.

Besides the orange, other foods rich in C are watermelons, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage brussel sprouts, kiwi fruit, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, leafy greens, papayas, mangos, and pineapples.

While aging is something science has yet to find a cure for, a good way to prevent yourself from looking older than you are is to live a healthy lifestyle. While we cannot stop gravity from doing what it eventually does to skin, we can keep ourselves from looking like Keith Richards by living well and avoiding bad habits such as smoking, drinking and fast food. All the wrinkle creams in the worlds will not stop your face from looking craggy and lined if you decided to live the life of a rock and roller well into your forties.

In conclusion, your skin is the largest organ in your body as well as the  most visible so it makes sense that we do our outmost to take care of it. A well balanced diet rich in Vitamin C and E  is a first good step as well as  keeping your skin clean and moisturized. There will be no need to run to a plastic surgeon for a lift or a shot of botox, if you persevere to eat right and take care of yourself while you are still young.
