If there are any skin issues that are even more stubborn than acne, they are stretch marks. Pretty much all women suffer from them during pregnancy and/or breast-feeding in the abdomen area and breasts. They are caused when the skin is pulled unnaturally due to sudden weight gain and typically appear as dark red vertical lines towards the direction the skin is pulled. Even though pregnancy is the main cause, they may appear during puberty also, because of the fat that starts to accumulate in different parts of the body for hormonal activities.

Body-builders also develop stretch marks as the skin surface is tightly pulled because of the bulging muscles beneath it. Remember, stretch marks as we can see them are not occurring on the skin surface and therefore cannot be reached by any topical anti-septic that may quicken the healing of the scars.

There are quite a few pregnancy stretch mark cream products available on the market today to fight developing stretch marks. Even though some dermatologists doubt if topical creams can be used to treat scars that occur deep inside the skin, many of these creams prove to be quite effective. Some well-known anti-scar creams such as Mederma can also be used as a pregnancy stretch mark cream.

However, most cosmetic companies have their special range of creams, sprays and lotions to fight stretch marks specifically. Some pregnancy stretch mark cream products also have anti-aging properties and can be used to treat sagging skin of the face. You can use good moisturizing lotions such as Nivea blue, Vitamin E or olive oil to massage the affected area, but it is advisable that you also apply pregnancy stretch mark cream as they are specially formulated to heal the wear and tear in the collagen.

The effectiveness of a pregnancy stretch mark cream may vary depending on different factors. Heredity plays a major role in their severity. If women in your family have a history of developing scars that refuse to disappear, yours may be quite difficult to treat even with the products.

If your stretch marks are a few years old, stretch mark creams may not be as effective for you. Dermatologists advise to start applying a good cream from the 3rd or 4th month of pregnancy, that is, even before the stretch marks appear. Remember, the longer the stretch marks are left untreated, the more likely they will become permanent.

While pregnancy stretch mark cream is good and effective solution, beware of the components they are made. Don’t make the mistake of buying a cheap cream as you are going to apply it on your belly inside which your baby is resting. Take a careful note of the ingredients the cream is made of before finalizing your purchase.

There are many things a person can do to prevent the development of stretch marks on their body. Some ways are by healthy living, other ways are by getting regular check ups from the doctor.

One major cause of stretch marks are from a pregnant body. The skin can only stretch so far without damaging. Thus, when baby stretches too far, the stretch marks are forever imprinted, or so you thought.

    When pregnant:

    1. Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter hydrates and replenishes dry skin. There are many different quantities and qualities of cocoa butter creams in the store. Pick one brand and try it. If you like it and it seems to work, stick with it. Follow the package directions or rub once a day all over your tummy where stretch marks may develop. This is especially important when you reach the middle and last trimesters of your pregnancy. Cocoa butter can be used on any skin that is dry or flaky to rejuvenate it.

    2. Vitamin E

Vitamin E can be purchased by itself in a health food or supplements store. It is normally found in a gel or cream. It also hydrates the skin and gives it added elasticity. The added help to elasticity is what prevents future stretch marks from happening. Follow the directions on the package or use twice daily on your growing tummy.

    3. Control Weight Gain

Weight gain is important during pregnancy. However, how you gain the weight is the most important. Slow and steady growth, of one to two pounds per week is safest for you and the baby in the middle trimester. The weight gain should slow during the end. When the weight gain is rapid, the skin doesn’t have a chance to stretch naturally. Stretch marks occur from skin that is pulled too tight too quickly. If you can moderate your diet and exercise, it will go a long way to helping control any stretch mark outbreaks.

    4. Enriched Drinks

You can purchase a mix in the health food stores. It is called Calc Fluor 6X. It is safe for you and the baby and contains many vitamins and nutrients to hydrate your body. Follow the package directions. It is suggested to use three times a day every week in your early trimester. Then once you hit midway, alternate weeks of using it. It helps build and repair your skin from the inside out.

    5. Drink lots of Water

Even with all of the products designed to keep you and your skin hydrated, water is still the best option. It is free and available everywhere. Drink eight glasses a day to keep your system flushed of toxins and your skin moisturized.

    Creams & Lotions

Scientists have created many creams and lotions full of ingredients to help your skin. These ingredients build collagen and help with elasticity. The same lotions that help with stretch marks have the same effect on wrinkles. Therefore, the skin care products are a billion dollar industry!

    6. Copper

Copper is one of the essential ingredients needed for firm skin. It is used in almost every skincare product available. Products are being created now where copper is the main ingredient. Buying and using copper fortified skin care products builds firmness of the skin and makes it look younger. Toned and fortified skin won’t stretch too fast, resulting in stretch marks. Rub all over where you may get (or want to get rid of) stretch marks: thighs, butt, hips, stomach and arms.

    7. Moisturizers

Moisturizers are available everywhere from dollar stores to luxury skin care chains. The price range is $1 all the way up to thousands of dollars per ounce. Do they work better? Not necessarily. The important part is you take care of dry skin. The cream, no matter what quality, will have some vitamins and hydrating ingredients that you will benefit from. Keeping the skin moisturized will increase your chances of preventing the dreaded stretch mark.

    8. Retin A Cream

Retin A cream is a type of moisturizer that prevents wrinkles and stretch marks on the skin. The Retin A is a protein used to build collagen in the skin. The belief is that adding this on top of your skin builds the collagen even further. The more collagen you have, the more elasticity your skin has too. With more elasticity, you have less wrinkles and stretch marks. The Retin A cream can be used as a preventative tool and also to combat existing wrinkles and stretch marks. Retin A creams can be moderate to expensive in price.

    9. Emu Oil

Using Emu Oil to treat stretch marks is one hot new trend in the skin care fight. It contains fatty acids, which have been found to help many skin ailments, not just stretch marks. It is an all-natural product that is healthy for every individual to use. The Emu Oil can be purchased in liquid form to drink, pills to take daily and as a cream to apply topically. The Emu Oil will repair any damaged skin and keep it healthy.

Stretch marks appear as lines or marks and are scar-like in appearance. Most commonly associated with pregnancy, scarring can also become present as a result of weight loss, injury, surgery or acne.

Fundamentally, stretch marks – and scars – are a result of torn tissue at the superficial dermal layer. They are manifested by slightly raised lines or marks on the epidermis, often smooth in nature.

Fibroblast cells, in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, create collagen and elastic fibers to repair the torn skin. It is difficult for the fibroblasts to develop healthy tissue with normal elastin fibers with constant stretching and movement.

Stretch mark cream has become increasingly popular becauseĀ it promotes healthy skin cell growth, production of collagen and improvement of elastic fibers – thus reducing tearing and promoting healing.

An active ingredient found in many products is Emu Oil. Emu Oil has been used by the Aborigines in Australia for thousands of years to treat scars, stretch marks, acne, heal burns, reduce inflammation and rashes, and has been used effectively in hair products as well to reduce dandruff and scalp psoriasis.

Emu Oil is derived from the Emu bird, a flightless cousin of the Ostrich. Though commonly raised for its tender, delicious meat, clinically derived oil from its upper-back is processed for its medicinal purposes. Clinical studies have found Emu Oil to have several important and therapeutic properties.

Emu Oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It reduces inflamed tissue while promoting healthy skin cell development. It is rich in Oleic Acid that reduces inflammation, making it highly effective as a skin healing agent.

Emu Oil is transdermal, and when combined with Matrixyl or Hyaluronic Acid, for instance, becomes very effective at not only improving the skin’s elasticity, it firms and tightens sagging or loose skin lessening tearing making it an excellent stretch mark treatment.

It actively promotes collagen production and is a natural moisturizer reducing fibrous tears as skin is stretched during pregnancy or from weight gain. It has been shown to substantially reduce scarring and to accelerate recovery from damaged and torn skin.

STM Stretch Mark and Scar Cream combines Emu Oil and a rich compliment of active ingredients for an effective stretch mark cream and scar treatment. Aloe Vera is used to help soothe the skin and copper peptides help promote healthy skin regeneration and repair wounds by invigorating new collagen and replacing scarred surface skin with new, healthy skin cells.

Shea Butter, collagen, and Vitamin E rejuvenate elasticity and Hyaluronic Acid (HA) infuses natural hydration and moisture adding vital elasticity and fluids for normal collagen production.

Clinical studies and customer testimonials have shown scars and stretch marks are visibly reduced and inhibited if used prior and during pregnancy, and scar reduction or elimination is experienced for current scarring.

There are alternatives however, surgery, light abrasives, and soft light laser therapy can also help eliminate stretch marks. But a stretch mark cream with effective active ingredients and skin care can be the best bet to long-term stretch mark treatment and healthy skin.

Former IBM executive and skin care entreprenuer, Tim Faber has acquired, started or invested in over eight companies since 1987 and has been involved in numerous boards and charities, including the SC Philharmonic.

Tim is president and managing partner of a skin care manufacturing and distribution firm outside Athens, GA near Atlanta.

You have probably heard the news by now but if you haven’t I will repeat it. There are methods of lessening the appearance of your stretch marks. The most common of them at the moment is stretch mark cream.

The rich first realised that surgical procedures could be undergone to enojoy the removal of unsightly stretch marks from your life but quite obviously this option didn’t fit the price bracket or the comfort bracket of millions of women suffering from the condition scientifically known as Striea.

So as they do, scientists band together in their labs to invent the now popular stretch mark creams that can be seen from a simple websearch for stretch mark cream. Creams have been around for the last few years but have so far gained popularity on the internet more so than in the offline world.

So what do stretch mark creams do? After all it is the belief of most people that there is in fact no reliable cure for Striea.

Basically a stretch mark is a tear or damaging of the underlying tissue of the skin cells. The job of a good cream is to penetrate deep enough into the skin that it can actually affect and by certain means heal and repair this damaged tissue causing a visible difference to the physical appearance of the skin.

For the most part creams are compounds of natural ingredients and hence although they can be powerful do not require prescription. Keeping this in mind though, if you are looking at actually purchasing cream, a few things should be considered.

Firstly you need to look on which level the formula really works. Some work on the outward appearance of the skin and work to tighten and firm the layers of skin nearest the surface and in doing so alter the skins appearance. While these can produce results in changing the appearance of your marks they won’t actually penetrate to the cause of the mark and work to fully heal it so that the mark that you see can eventually disappear.

The other type of creams, the more effective and powerful type that is works on what is called a trans cellular level meaning that the active ingredients of the cream actually penetrates to the tissues below the surface of the skin to cause internal and hence more effective and longer lasting healing. It is when these tissues are healed, along with the combination of a healthy diet, will result in permanent removal of marks.

Stretch mark creams retail on the market anywhere from $20 to $80 per bottle/jar/tube etc. Generally you will find that the second type of cream mentioned will be at the higher end of the price scale due to the more advanced actions it performs and the more advanced technology they require, while the first type while being less effective will often be sold at the lower price.
